Men walk along the Dhudh Kosi in Sagamartha National Park. Sagarmatha National Park is a protected area in northeastern Nepal, near the Tibetan border. It contains part of the Himalayas and the southern part of Mount Everest. This park was created on 19 July 1976 and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. Sagarmatha is the Nepalese name for Mount Everest which means "the goddess mother of heaven" in Sanskrit. The park has an area of 1,148 km2 and is located at an altitude of 2,845 m at Jorsale and 8,848 m at the top of Everest.
