Description of the photograph

The remains of the church of the village of Sant Roma de Sau. The village was abandoned before being flooded when a dam was built in the 1950s, turning the river into the Sau Reservoir. For years the church and a number of other buildings in the village have been destroyed, but in recent years the water levels have fallen dramatically due to lack of rain. The church is now a popular tourist attraction. The inhabitants of the village of Sant Roma de Sau were rehoused in the nearby town of Vilanova de Sau. Sau Reservoir in the Guilleries-Savassona National Park in Osona region of Catalunya, near Barcelona. Date: 19/4/08
