Description of the photograph

Niger. Gerewol, General Assembly of the Wadabee Fulani of West Africa. Fulani Bororo. Every year during the winter, the Bororo Fulani meet after one year of transhumance to celebrate the Gerewol. Deeply animist, Bororo's life is dictated by beauty. This cult reaches its apotheosis during this original festival where only men compete. After hours of preparation, they present themselves online, made up, adorned with jewels and their most beautiful assets. They sing and dance slowly like this, then offer women their tense smiles and wide-eyed eyes in order to highlight the aesthetics of their faces. The Bororo girls then mingle with the dancers and choose the most beautiful ones.
